The Friends of Payson Parks and Recreation (FPP&R) was organized to help the parks and recreation department with recreational costs the town budget could not cover. The effort to secure a community recreation center was a part of this goal.
So far we have provided “scholarship” funds for youth who could not afford the fees for the P&R sports programs, and purchased and donated some sporting materials and park equipment. Payson Parks and Recreation needs our help now, more than ever, to provide summer water activities for our youth, as well as summer employment for the older youth.
There is a very good chance that Taylor Pool will not be open next year. The current budget shortfall could get worse, requiring even more severe budget cutbacks in the upcoming months.
We, the FPP&R, would like to raise $100,000 to $125,000 for the town. We anticipate the pool could then be able to open and be appropriately staffed for the upcoming summer.
We estimate a two-and-a-half month open period for multiple swimming and water activities. This funding would need to be in place by May 1 so that lifeguards could be trained and prepared for the summer swim programs. If everyone who voted in the recent town election sent a $25 tax deductible contribution to: Friends of Payson Parks and Recreation, 1000 N. Beeline Highway, #143, Payson, AZ 85541 or dropped it off at the parks and recreation office in Green Valley Park, we could have an open pool for the summer of 2009. Please mark “Taylor Pool” or “Youth Programs” on the check and your envelopes. Thank you for your support.
