Southern and Eastern Arizona are experiencing cold temperatures along with incoming storm fronts, which are expected to bring snow, sleet, freezing rain and produce wet and icy roadways for elevations beginning at 3,000 feet, including most of Gila County.
No flooding has been reported in Pine-Strawberry, Payson or Star Valley, according to authorities. Ice and snow has covered Highway 87 between Payson and Pine. The Arizona Department of Transportation expects icy conditions on the roadway until 3 p.m. Tuesday between mileposts 264 and 317.
All motorists need to be aware of quickly changing weather and road conditions. To prevent loss of control on snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain or rain soaked roadway surfaces, DPS advises motorists to slow down, allow for greater following distances, perform gradual braking and keep the steering straight.
If your vehicle does go into a skid, slow down and steer gradually into the skid to regain control.
For road condition updates, please use the Arizona Department of Transportation info line by calling 511 or visit the Web site at www.az511.com or www.azdot.gov.
