Norman and Janet Hook of Gisela marked 50 years of marriage Dec. 29. There was a small celebration, with a large family event planned later.

Norman and Janet Hook of Gisela celebrated 50 years together with friends and neighbors a week before their Dec. 29 anniversary.

Because of jobs, school and location, their children are planning a 2009 event this summer in Michigan.

The couple’s family includes Judy (Kevin) Smith of Arkansas; Neal (Nancy) Hook of Michigan; Sue (Kurt) Hatteberg of Colorado; Sheila (Jim) Baumgartner of Minnesota; Frankie (Johnie) Johnson of Florida; Gene (Dawn) Hook of Laveen; and David Hook of Mesa.

The Hooks also have 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hook is a retired senior master sergeant and spent 28 years in the Air Force.

The couple moved to Gisela in 1989, the day after Christmas. He has since filled his time as sanitary engineer at Rye Bar and Restaurant.

Mrs. Hook’s last employment was helping out with the census taken in 2000.
