Elderly Man Threatened, Forced To Withdraw Funds

A 28-year-old man, who allegedly kidnapped and forced an elderly Payson resident to withdraw money from his bank account, was arrested by police officers Tuesday afternoon.

An elderly Payson man was allegedly threatened and forced to withdraw funds from Chase Bank, late Tuesday afternoon.

Payson Police officers surround a car at Chase Bank, which was used in an alleged kidnapping of an elderly man and the forced withdrawal of money from the bank.

Police officials say Jordan Heller, 28, Payson, was taken into custody and will face possible charges of robbery, kidnapping, theft by extortion, theft of means of transportation, DUI, extreme DUI and misdemeanor theft.

Payson Police Chief Don Engler said the 79-year-old victim was unharmed.

"We have not been able to determine if there is any relationship between the victim and suspect. It is unknown how the victim was selected," Engler said.

It is believed the initial contact was made with the victim at a Payson discount store, Engler said.

"We received two reports. One from a nearby restaurant and another from the bank."

Engler said it is not known if a weapon was involved; none has been found.

"It was the forcefulness of the suspect that seems to have made it possible for him to verbally control the victim."

Police taped off the victim's car in the bank parking lot and searched it. Engler said the search was made because it is believed the suspect was in the vehicle at some point.

The incident is still being investigated, and further details will be published as they are made available.
