Jazz vocalist Nicole Pasternak will perform at the next Jazz in AZ concert this month. Pasternak will present a program with pianist Lew Turano and friends at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main Street, Payson.
Connecticut resident, Nicole Pasternak has developed an enthusiastic audience in the Northeast U.S. with her honest, straight-ahead style, and equal energy for swing songs, bebop, ballads and Latin jazz. She also kicks in writing some of her own music and lyrics.
Joining in on the keys is her pianist, Lew Turano, who at age 7 began his classical music studies. While never abandoning the piano, he returned to music on a full-time basis after retiring from a 35-year career in business. Accompanying Nicole at various clubs and parties in New York and Connecticut, Lew is equally at home playing chamber music in Sedona, where he resides a good part of the year. His interplay with Nicole is described as "a warm, swinging, and unique experience."
"We are very fortunate to have Nicole perform for us in Payson while she is visiting on her trip west to perform at several venues in the state," said Gerry Reynolds, who coordinates the Jazz in AZ concerts for the Payson Friends of Jazz.
Scott Yanow, of AMG All Music Guide, said about Nicole, "A fine singer with an appealing voice, a comfortable range and a natural feeling for jazz."
The performance is open to all area residents, and a $5 minimum donation for each guest may be given at the door.
Although not required, you may contact Gerry Reynolds to reserve seating by leaving a message at (480) 785-1278, or by sending a message to him at firstname.lastname@example.org, giving your name and the number of individuals who will be attending.
