Led by the husband and wife team of Tad and Bonnie Neal, the Friends and Neighbors (FAN) boys basketball support group made the past home season one to remember.

In an effort to build enthusiasm for the team, the FAN Club scoured the business community searching for team sponsors to provide prizes for halftime giveaways.

More than 20 local businesses, including the Tonto Apache Tribe, responded with donations, which the FAN Club eventually doled out to home-game spectators.

"We'd throw little basketballs out (to the crowd) and they'd have the coupons for prizes attached to them," Bonnie Neal said. "It was very successful."

The top prize, a 50-inch plasma television donated by the Tonto Apache Tribe, was raffled Jan. 26 during halftime of a home game against Estrella Foothills.

The lucky winner of the TV was Cari Day, who was on hand at the game to receive the prize from Tonto Apache Tribal members Kenny Davis, Farrell Hoosava and Lanell Hooke.

"We are very grateful to the tribe for that donation," Bonnie Neal said.

She also thanked the other businesses that stepped up to donate prizes for the booster program. (For a complete list of donors, see Extra Points).
