Fellowship Honors Ministers For Long Service

After more than 130 years of combined service, three ministers were honored by the Payson Christian Ministerial Fellowship. Robert Baird, Ted Leonard and Charles Wilcox were each presented with Pastor Appreciation Awards.

The awards were presented to acknowledge the three men's retirement from active ministerial duties with area congregations. The three will continue their service in other capacities.

Pastor Gordon Hauptmann of Crossroads Foursquare Church, president of the Payson Christian Ministerial Fellowship, presents the Pastor Appreciation Award to retiring Pastor Robert Baird.

Baird served for 62 years as a minister, working in 10 different states. He led two churches in Payson, the Payson Christian Church and Christ's Community Church; he also led the Globe Christian Church. He will continue his work by leading a Thursday Bible study in Globe and teaching a Sunday school class at the Central Christian Church of Payson.

Leonard was also a pastor of the Payson Christian Church and led the church in Mesa del Caballo as well. He was also a longtime member of the ministerial fellowship. "He has been active with the ministerial fellowship longer than any other pastor," said Jerry Green, also a member of the fellowship.

Wilcox served Tonto Village as a pastor and at Roosevelt. His work has also included a stint with the Globe Mission Office and with the Navajos in New Mexico.
