Rim Country Children Enjoy Newspaper Event

Local children from Payson Community Kids, Head Start and Rim Country Literacy enjoyed learning about newspapers and reading at a program held at the Payson Public Library on Saturday. Educational activities were presented by volunteers from Arizona Press Women and Rim Country Literacy. A special guest, The Cat in the Hat (Gail Gorry), delighted the youngsters with her reading of a Dr. Seuss book.

Pat Oso, newspapers in education (NIE) coordinator for the Arizona Newspapers Association, led the educational activities involving print newspapers. Carol Itule, NIE coordinator for The Arizona Republic, supplied activity books and resource materials for the workshop. Following a pizza lunch, the youngsters spent some time in the library's children's room and 15 received their first library cards.
