Let me see if I get this straight. Michael Hughes, a real estate agent, is running for town council.
To his credit, he has gone on record stating that he would "recuse himself ... if there were an issue ... that I had direct involvement in." My question: what about indirect involvement? For instance, with another Realtor or developer?
Mr. Hughes indicated that he "currently serves on the Central Arizona Board of Realtors as an executive officer in the position of secretary." The very same organization that has reportedly made an $1,800 contribution. That sounds like a conflict of interest.
With respect to limiting 250 building permits a year, Mr. Hughes said "I'm against it."
This begs a question. Whose interests will he represent? The real estate industry or the people of Payson?
