Payson Removes Beef That May Have Been Recalled

Payson Unified School District's Child Nutrition Office responded quickly and decisively to remove beef that may or may not have been included in the largest beef recall in U.S. history.

Food Services Director Bill Helmintoller said, "Beef was taken off all school menus from the time of the recall, within the last two weeks of February, and will remain off the menus at least through March until the situation is sorted out at every level."

His department discarded 31 cases (1,200 pounds) of beef.

School menus have been updated with substitutes for beef. Schools will be using chicken, ground turkey, turkey hot dogs and corn dogs, fish and cheese to replace beef for the foreseeable future. Parents should call (928) 472-5703 if they have questions or concerns.
