Josephine Nies, 96, a resident of Payson, Ariz. for 34 years, died Dec. 29, 2007.Born in Mineral Wells, Kan., Oct. 23, 1911, to Frank and Jessie Stimac. She was the oldest of five children.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Ken) Wagner of Payson; sisters, Jennie Wheeler of Winslow and Mary Phillips of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Marlene Rusnak of Winslow; six grandchildren, including, Kelley (Rob) Fanizza of Payson and Kevin Donovan of Bothell, Wash., and granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Donovan of Mesa.Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren, including, Ryan Fanizza of Payson, Michael Fanizza of Scottsdale, Jennyfer Rusnak of Phoenix, Kathryn and Sean Donovan of Redmond, Wash. and K.C. Henage of Mesa; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Michael Rusnak and Purl Nies; daughter, Shirley Rusnak; son, Michael Rusnak; brother, Frank Stimac; and sister, Rose Gustafson.
Services were held Thursday, Jan. 3 at the Church of the Holy Nativity, 1414 N. Easy St. with Rev. Lowell E. Andrews, officiating.
