Jazz trumpeter Ken Taylor will perform in Payson with the Ken Taylor Quartet at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Community Presbyterian Church on West Main Street.
"Live people making live music for a live audience is among the most significant of human experiences," saysjazz artist Ken Taylor. His musical voice is an amalgamation of styles blended into a very personal statement. His trumpet sound is described as "a reflection of both humor and of drama." The rich, warm tone of his flugelhorn draws the listener into the most intimate corners of his creative soul.
In other words, Ken is a darn good horn player.
After a successful teaching career, he became a part of many of the Valley's top jazz and symphonic ensembles. These include the Arizona Big Band and the Scottsdale Symphony, to name a few.
He also continues to share the spotlight in support of top area vocalists, including Margo Reed, Nancy Gee, Michele Camey, and Delphine Cortez, as well as performing with many top jazz instrumentalists. He served as vice president and secretary of the Arizona Association of Jazz Educators, and as a board member of Jazz in Arizona, an organization that promotes live jazz and education in the schools.
Ken's quartet includes jazz musicians Stan Sorenson on guitar, Dave Grale on upright bass and local Gerry Reynolds on drums.
The performance is open to all residents, and a $5 donation is requested. Contact Gerry Reynolds for information, or to RSVP at 480-785-1278 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
