Julia Marie Slavik Skoda died Jan. 12, 2008. She was born Oct. 3, 1915 on a farm west of Schuyler, Neb. Her parents were Mary Antionette Chmelka Slavik and Frank Anton Slavik.
She married James Martin Skoda on Sept. 11, 1935 at her parents farm. After the wedding, they moved to a farm north of North Bend, Neb.
During her life, she and her husband had a lumber mill and a chicken ranch in Oregon; built resorts and cabins in northern Minnesota; built houses in Nebraska; and owned liquor stores and a bar in Bellevue, Neb.
In later years, the couple traveled the United States in trailers, then retired for years in Laporte, Minn. in summers and in Hemet, Calif. in winters. In the latter years, they moved to Payson.
Mrs. Skoda resided in assisted living at Rim Country Health and Retirement Community in Payson.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Calvin) Nelson of Laguna Beach, Calif. and Sandra Barklow of Costa Mesa, Calif.; four granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James.
