Rodney Dane Matthews, known as "Buzz Matthews," died Jan. 10, 2008. He was born Nov. 25, 1944.
In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Florence, of Glendale, Ariz., the mother of his children. They were married for 23 years.
Mr. Matthews spent the last 15 years with Evelyn Gollahon, of Strawberry, who loved and cared for him until his final days.
He is survived by two children, Dana Matthews of Surprise and Monte Matthews and wife, Lori, of Glendale. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Matthews Babcock of Decatur, Ill., brothers, Leon (Linda) and Bill (Karen) of Decatur, Ill.; sister, Nancy (Jim) Caldwell of San Felipe, BC, Mexico; three grandchildren, Tayler Pierson and Daniel and Kalie Matthews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; and his sister, Ramona Kay Devore.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18 at the Strawberry Chapel in the Pines, 8579 Fossil Creek Road, Strawberry.
A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19 at the home of Monte Matthews, 5113 W. Parkview Lane in Glendale.
