The community should have high hopes that the planned Event Center hotel becomes a reality.
The Payson Town Council entered into a lease agreement with Hospitality Support Group LLC for prime town-owned land, which will be used to construct a facility that will increase the town's ability to attract small conventions. The plan is for a facility with ballrooms and meeting space for up to 500 people.
The facility, directly across from the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino, gives Arizona residents one more reason to put Payson on their destination map.
Tourism is big business and it is important for Payson not to get left behind. The proposed hotel will be a nice complement to the activities at the Event Center, as well as those at Mazatzal Casino, and will fit with the town's efforts to promote Payson.
Payson is an attractive four-seasons place, which offers visitors an entryway into three national forests and a world of outdoor activities.
The new hotel is another step in diversifying our economy and helping residents with expanded employment options.
