The village has been soaked with all the rain this past weekend.
Tonto Village resident Chuck Stailey has kept a rain gauge up and he has told me that he measured the rainfall at 3.5 inches and Dick Watson in Tonto Village I measured the rainfall at 3.75 inches plus.
The creek that runs through the village was flowing pretty fast.
The Control Road from the start of the village up to the end of Johnson Boulevard was closed to traffic most of the day on Monday because of the fast flowing creek.
The back streets have major runoffs down the middle of the street in some places.
The residents need to be careful about all the potholes and erosion from the rainfall. Snow fell on Monday evening, but measured only an inch or two.
The temperature was cold enough that the frost put a hard crust on the snow, making walking a dangerous undertaking.
Hellsgate Fire District
Training the firefighters has become an ongoing event for the volunteers. The schedule for training will be the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month and the last Saturday of every month. The training will alternate between stations 21 and 22 at 6 p.m. All firefighters should check their e-mail for further information.
Chief Gary Hatch is looking for more volunteers to man the Tonto Village station. Terry Johnson is at the Tonto Village Station every day, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go by the station and pick up an application. The phone number for the station is (928) 478-4875.
Bill Snyder and Phon Sutton have resigned as firefighters. Snyder stepped down because he feels that physically, he cannot keep up with all the training.
Snyder will be 73 on his next birthday; Sutton just turned 70. They both feel that their places could be better handled by younger volunteers.
Sutton and Snyder both want to thank Chief Gary Hatch for all that he has done to bring Tonto Village volunteers up to a place where we can all be proud of the accomplishments made with up-to-date training for our firefighters.
Sutton and Snyder have enjoyed their time spent with the fire district and they both wish the volunteers "good luck" with their continuing training.
The newly elected fire board will have their next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at Station #21, Star Valley.
The board meetings will rotate their meetings from Star Valley to Tonto Village, alternating the meetings to both stations.
The newly formed Tonto Village Domestic Water Improvement District will hold the next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The meeting will be at the Tonto Village Chapel beginning at 6 p.m. with Chairman Daryl Kilbourne officiating.
Please mark your calendar for this very important meeting, this meeting concerns you, as a Tonto Village resident and your water supply.
