Man Found Dead Of Natural Causes At Veterans' Home

The body of a 57-year-old man was found Saturday at the Ponderosa Manor Veterans Helping Veterans facility.

Allen Eugene Cotton, was found dead in his trailer at 212 W. Wade Lane, near South Ash Street and Highway 87, said Payson Police Det. Les Barr.

A cleaning person who thought Cotton was out of town at the time, discovered him, said Chief Don Engler.

Cotton's body was found under his bed in blankets. The top of the bed was covered in debris, so he slept under the bed, Barr said. "It looks like he went to sleep and never woke up."

No one had seen Cotton for a while, which was normal, Barr said. "Near as we can tell, the last time anyone had seen him was in March," he said.

Police are waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine how long Cotton had been dead. Sgt. John Heflin said it looked like he had been dead for several months.

Police believe Cotton died of natural causes. An investigation is ongoing, but police do not suspect foul play.

Cotton is a registered sex offender convicted of aggravated assault.
