Mildred Rosemary Stabnau, 92, formerly of Tonto Basin, died July 9, 2008 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home in Bedford, Pa.
Mrs. Stabnau and her husband, Frederick "Fred," retired to Tonto Basin in 1974 where Mr. Stabnau ran a small engine and chain saw repair shop.
The couple enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, spending numerous weeks camped up on the Rim, trout fishing and hunting. Fishing was a lifelong passion for Mrs. Stabnau -- she went fishing with her boyfriend and future husband Fred, instead of attending her graduation ceremony.
She was born April 12, 1916 in Harrisburg, Pa. to the late Milton and the late Mary E. (Carns) Hahnlen. On Sept. 7, 1935 in Hagerstown, Md., she married Frederick William Stabnau, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2001.
She is survived by sons, Larry F. Stabnau and his companion, Sharon Dively, Gary R. Stabnau of Show Low, and Kent A. (Jenette) Stabnau of Flagstaff; daughter, Lynda L. (Stanford) Boyer; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Sands; one son, Mark Stabnau; one granddaughter, Kristen Joy Stabnau; three brothers, Roy, Harold and Lester Hahnlen; and one sister, Louise Hahnlen.
Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park in Payson at a future date.
