The Gila County Sheriff's Office, assisted by search and rescue personnel and the Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter are searching the Rim Country for a missing Mesa man.
Stephen Smith, 61, was last heard from at approximately 7 p.m., Monday, June 2. He made a phone call from the Payson area, saying he was headed to Camp Geronimo.
The GCSO was contacted about the missing man at approximately noon, Wednesday, June 4.
Sheriff's deputies have been out looking on all forest roads and highways in the area, according to information from the Payson office of the GCSO.
The GCSO search and rescue coordinator Sgt. Terry Hudgens requested assistance from the DPS helicopter and an air search was conducted between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 5 with no success.
Smith is balding with gray hair, 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He was driving a grey 1/2-ton GMC pickup - a model from either 2000 or 2001 - with a front license plate holder with "YATES" on it.
Citizens are being asked to assist in locating Smith.
If he or his vehicle have been seen, call any law enforcement agency.
