Now that the Memorial holiday weekend is over, the Village can get back to normal.
The Control Road and the streets around the Village were busy with residents and weekenders enjoying the forest. Most of the residents took on the task of reopening their summer cabins and restocking their pantries and cleaning up pine needles in anticipation of spending quality time in their cabins for the summer. The children of the Village are out of school for the summer and they also play in the streets, so caution should be taken by everyone when using the streets in the Village.
Vacation Bible School/Tonto Village Chapel
An activity that will be coming up soon is Vacation Bible School sponsored by the Tonto Village Chapel. The theme this year is "Ride Into Adventure and Blaze the Trails with Good News to Cactus Canyon." The fun will start on July 14 and end on July 18. All children are welcome from the surrounding area.
Not only will there be Bible lessons, but arts and crafts, music and plenty of games. The times will be 9 a.m. to 12 noon. If you need more information, call the Chapel at (928) 478-5070 or Pastor James Barker at (928) 951-4493 or Rita Spalink at (928) 478-4282.
An additional church service has been added to the church schedule. There is now an evening service on Sunday at the chapel beginning at 6 p.m. A Bible study class has also been added on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
A huge thank-you to the Tonto Village Chapel and to its congregates for allowing the Hellsgate ‘Fireflies' Fire Department Auxiliary to hold the fund-raising breakfast last week.
Pastor Barker has let the Fireflies use the facility again on Aug. 30 for the huge Labor Day Bash and BBQ. The Village is very fortunate to have a chapel that doubles as a community center.
A heartbreaking loss
Prayers and heartfelt sympathy to Royce and Debbie O'Donnell of Mead Ranch on the loss of their son, Rocky. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family. When your heart is empty, filling it with happy memories can help you find your smile.
Time and date change
The Hellsgate Fireflies Fire Department Auxiliary has changed the meeting day to Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at the Tonto Village Chapel. Discussion will center around the Memorial Weekend Breakfast and the BBQ coming at the end of August. Everyone is invited to attend and to volunteer some of their time to help with the annual BBQ.
Jerry Farmer of Tonto Village II and former owner of The Country Store in the Village had a birthday on June 3. Marilyn Lamb of Kohl's Ranch will celebrate her big day on June 6. Marilyn comes to play dominoes every Wednesday at the Chapel.
RuthAnn Winchester of Mead Ranch will blow out a few candles on June 7. May you delight in the simple treasures of life on your birthday. Have a great day!
Last Tuesday evening the nine-ball gals from Tonto Village and Christopher Creek got together at the Double D. Bobbette ‘Bobbi' Davis shot for first place, Patti Boeschling of Christopher Creek took second place and Margaret Stasney claimed third place.
Sunday afternoon, the Double D was again busy with an eight-ball tournament. The winners were Harvey Poyner (Say, this is getting a little repetitious. Is Harvey improving his game?), Cliff Landrum shot for second place and Willie (no last name) from Mead Ranch took third place. Congratulations to all the winners.
Watch this column for the date of the next Scotch Doubles tournament. The Scotch Doubles has turned out to be a real winner with a good turnout.
