Stephen Smith, who became lost on his way to Camp Geronimo last week, has been found safe.

Last Friday's Roundup had a report of a search for a missing Mesa man. Stephen Smith had been going to the Camp Geronimo Boy Scout facility and had contacted family from Payson earlier in the week.

When the family did not hear from Smith again, they reported him missing and the Gila County Sheriff's Office began a search.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office was contacted by Smith at approximately 9 a.m., Friday, June 6.

He described his location and from that information the sheriff's personnel were able to determine where he was and went to him. He was in good health, though hungry and thirsty.

He was east and south of Payson, while Camp Geronimo is north and east of Payson.

Smith's vehicle had become stuck and he had no cell reception.

He reportedly walked to a higher point in order to get cell phone service, called his wife and then called the sheriff's office.

Smith refused medical attention and was taken to the sheriff's office to meet his family.
