Amy Scruggs returns to the Rim Country this weekend to celebrate the launch party of her first CD in the events hall at Mazatzal Hotel & Casino from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, June 13.
Scruggs performed at the casino during the 2008 Gary Hardt Memorial Spring Rodeo weekend and also sang the National Anthem at the rodeo performances.
"I have been performing since I was three and started touring about 10 years ago," Scruggs said in an interview earlier this week.
She started work on the CD, "Amy Scruggs - Right Here Right Now", about four years ago.
"There were some health-related setbacks," she said, explaining the time between the start of the CD project and its completion.
The CD is an independent production with eight tracks, she said. One is the exclusive cover of "Somebody's Knockin'", which is getting a lot of play on KRIM, she said. Another is a song she wrote with her lead guitarist and the co-producer of the CD, Steve Ryle, "You Didn't Notice".
Ryle is one member of Scruggs' four-man band, The Vintage Cowboys. In addition to Ryle, the band includes Morgan Masters on bass, Bill Anderson on drums and Billy Proulx on keyboards, dobro and guitar. Scruggs also plays keyboards.
The CD launch party will showcase the band, she said. It will be a four-hour show and she said she and the band encourage people to come out and dance. The CDs will be available for purchase at the party and Scruggs and the band will be autographing them.
Hot on the heels of Scruggs' CD launch, she will open for well-known country music artist Clint Black when he performs at the casino in Camp Verde.
Her next visit to Payson will be as headliner for the Big Bass Challenge at Mazatzal Hotel & Casino on Oct. 17.
If you can't get to the casino for the party June 13, Scruggs also has the CD for sale online at amyscruggs.com.
