Albert David Pirtle died June 17, 2008. He was born April 3, 1920 in Phoenix, to Edna and Ira Pirtle Sr.
He saw Arizona's early heritage growing up. In his childhood he was raised on the property of the first Phoenix Municipal Airport and attended Phoenix College and Arizona State Teachers College.
Mr. Pirtle proudly served his country during World War II as an officer in the United States Navy.
He was married to Laura E. Gage of Blodgett, Mo. for 64 years until her death in 2005. The couple raised four sons in Phoenix. They moved to Payson in 1987 upon his retirement from Schuff Steel, where he was a structural steel detailer.
He was an active member of the Payson Church of Christ.
Mr. Pirtle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura; sisters, Lillian Anderson of Arizona and Ruth Chastain of New Mexico; and brother, Ira Pirtle Jr. of Washington. He is survived by sons, David Pirtle of Payson, William Pirtle of Duncanville, Texas, Larry Pirtle of Olympia, Wash. and Randy Pirtle of Phoenix; sister, Evelyn Emfinger of Littlefield, Texas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 20 at the Payson Church of Christ, 401 E. Tyler Parkway.
