Melodrama Will Bring In The Summer Season

Summer officially starts tomorrow, Saturday, June 21, but if the temperature is any indicator, the season is already here.

But there is another indicator: The annual melodrama sponsored by the LDS Church in Christopher Creek.

The cast of this year's melodrama, "The Old Cookie Shop or Nellie was a Baker 'Cause She Kneaded the Dough," will be performed on June 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. In the front row are from left to right: Wanda Palmer, Kristie Clement and Shirley Armstrong. In the back are, left to right, Lorna Aschbrenner, Karl Mann, Joan Garig and Grant Coley.

This year the melodrama is called "The Cookie Shop or Nellie was a Baker 'Cause She Kneaded the Dough." The dates this year are June 26, 27 and 28. Performances will start at 7 p.m. each day with a matinee on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m.

The producer for the play is our very own resident, Grant Coley. The director this year is Pamela Steven. All performances are dedicated to Pamela's beloved husband Peter, who passed away recently. Peter was a friend of the melodrama group and he will be sorely missed by the cast members. The play will be about an hour long with olios (music and jokes). There is no charge for the performances, but tickets are needed. Call Effie Roehr at (928) 474-8108 or Marsha Ward at (928) 478-5086 for the tickets.

Tonto Village Chapel

Another indicator of summer in the Village is Vacation Bible School.

This year the dates are July 14 through July 18. The times will be from 9 a.m. to noon. If you have any questions, please call Rita Spalink at (928) 478-4282 or Pastor James Barker at (928) 951-4493. All children from the surrounding area are welcome, including grandchildren.

An additional church service has been added to the church schedule. There is now an evening service on Sundays at 6 p.m.

There is also another Bible study class to add to the Tuesday morning class. The Bible study will be on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome at either or both days.

The proposed budget for the coming fiscal year was posted in the Payson Roundup for the past two weeks. There will be a budget meeting and hearing at 6:45 p.m., July 1 at the fire station in Tonto Village.

A district Web site was discussed and may be up and running soon.

Danny Cain of Tonto Village III will celebrate his birthday on June 26. Danny has remodeled his home in TV III and has done a remarkable renovation. He is a skilled craftsman. We all wish Danny a fantastic day.
