Cowboy Dinner fund-raiser June 28

Payson Pink Lady Bugs will host a fund-raising Cowboy Dinner from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at the Moose Lodge in Star Valley. Proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure.

The dinner will feature beef brisket, baked potatoes, baked cowboy beans, cole slaw, rolls and butter, and homemade pies for dessert. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and children under 5 will be admitted free.

Breast Cancer Awareness items will be on display for purchase. Raffle tickets for lots of great prizes will be on sale.

For the second year, the Pink Lady Bugs will participate in the 60-mile, 3-day Walk for the Cure which takes place in Phoenix in November. Please show your support!

Still time to register for Summer Rec Program

Register your child today for Session II of the Payson Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Recreation Program, to be held Monday through Thursday June 30 through July 17. Children in first through fifth grades are eligible.

This is a fantastic opportunity to keep your children safe, busy and happy over summer recess. Children will participate in inside and outside games, arts and crafts, field trips, walks to the park and have and more under the supervision of certified teachers and their assistants.

Hours will be from 8 a.m. to noon, or from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for children in grades 4-6 who want to visit the pool every afternoon.

Cost is $40 per child for regular hours, or $65 per child for the additional pool program. Space is limited, so register today at the Parks and Recreation Office at 1000 W. Country Club Drive or online at www.paysonparks.com.

Arts and Crafts Bazaar July 4-6 in Overgaard

The 5th Annual Western Heritage Days, Arts and Crafts Bazaar takes place July 4-6 at the Bison Ranch Resort grounds on Highway 260 in Overgaard.

The three-day event, hosting some outstanding vendors, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at no charge.

Enjoy a couple of days of fun, food, shopping and entertainment.

Museum to host open house July 5

Rim Country Museum will host an open house to celebrate the renovation of the original Ranger's Home and Ranger Station, including the Marguerite Noble library which is now the archives and research room.

The event will be held at he Rim Country Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5. Enjoy some light refreshments and celebrate with us. There will be door prizes as well as a $50 gift certificate to be used in our gift shop, drawn from new memberships purchased that day.

Museum tours will be discounted $1 each.

Attention, jazz fans

The Payson Jazz Trio performs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday at the Strawberry Lodge in Strawberry. Bring the whole family.

The next open jazz jam will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27 at Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St.

Jazz vocalist Deater O'Neill with Mike Crotty on horns and an outstanding rhythm section will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at Community Presbyterian Church.

Annual melodrama June 26 in Christopher Creek

Every year the Christopher Creek LDS Church puts on a play for the towns of Payson, Star Valley, Diamond Point and Christopher Creek. This year's melodrama is "The Old Cookie Shop or Nellie Was a Baker 'Cause She Kneeded the Dough."

Performances will be at 7 p.m. June 26, 27 and 28, and there will be a 2 p.m. matinee June 28 at the church, located 18 miles east of Payson (take Christopher Creek exit off Highway 260).

The play is free, but you do need a ticket. Tickets may be obtained at no charge from Effee at 474-8108, or Marsha at 478-5086.

Craft show July 19

A craft show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at the Mazatzal Casino.

Artisans will display their creations including Native American jewelry, woodworking items, beaded and crystal jewelry, hand-painted lamps, lariat baskets and belts, vintage purses, clay sculptures, watercolor and oil paintings, leather goods and more.

Abstinence advocate to speak June 26

Abstinence advocate, entrepreneur and adventurer Molly Barnhart will be the featured speaker at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260 between Safeway and Giant. Her topic will be "Sex... The Way God Intended!"

AARP Driving Safety

Richard Loth will present an AARP Driving Safety Program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 5 at Payson Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway.

Children to present ‘The Red, White and Blue'

The Payson Children's Choral Theater Group will present "The Red, White and Blue," a patriotic musical, at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28 and at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at Ponderosa Baptist Church, 1800 N. Beeline Highway.

The musical extravaganza honors our heritage and the men and women who served our country. The Saturday night performance is dedicated to veterans and their friends and families. Each veteran will receive a small gift from the children. Admission is free.

The Children's Choral Group is open to all Payson area children, ages 6 through 12, who enjoy performing and are willing to commit to the weekly rehearsal. Transportation is provided to Tuesday afterschool rehearsals during the school year. Call Ponderosa Baptist Church at 474-9279 for more information. There are no fees for membership in this program.
