Norma Smith Hinds, a former Payson resident, died June 16, 2008 in Lewiston, Maine. She was born Nov. 4, 1928 in Madrid, Maine to Roxa Philbrick Smith and Glidden Douglass Smith.
She attended school in Rangeley, Maine. A drama major, she graduated Summa Cum Laude of Bates College in 1951.
She enjoyed working in her garden, going to church, reading, participating in her book club, traveling, attending Arabian horse shows, baking, cooking and completing the New York Times crossword puzzle in pen ... in record time.
She met her husband, Aurelius Stone Hinds II, at the Mooselookmeguntic House at Haines Landing in 1946. Married at the Bates Chapel, in 1952, the couple had three children.
Mrs. Hinds is survived by her husband; three children, Hilary Hume Hinds and husband Stanley Powell, Paula Ellen Hinds and partner Lynda German and Aurelius Stone Hinds III and wife Tamura Hinds; grandchildren, Ryan German and wife Carolyn German, Timothy Koranda and wife Alanna Koranda, Elizabeth A. Clark and husband Gary Clark, Brenda Hinds, Kathryn Hinds, Morgan Powell, Jennifer Hinds, Tara German and Trista German; and great-grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth Clark, Bryce McDonald, Garrett McDonald and Rowan Hiscock.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Christopher Morgan Hinds.
