The Mogollon Health Alliance, in conjunction with the Payson Fire Department, will be holding a free family and friends CPR class on Wednesday, March 26. Please call Mogollon Health Alliance at (928) 472-2588 for more information and to register.

MHA pays for the class through fund-raising, our gift shop at the hospital and through the generous donations to our Almsot New Thrift Shop at 304 E. Aero Drive.

Hear jazz tonight

As part of the First Friday celebration on Main Street tonight, Bob Smolenski, Danny Shannon and Gerry Reynolds will perform jazz tunes beginning at 5 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church. The church is located at 800 W. Main St.

Trio Excelsior! at PHS

The Tonto Community Concert Association hosts Trio Excelsior! in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the Payson High School auditorium.

Admission is by subscription or by individual tickets, if available. Individual tickets are $30 and go on sale 30 minutes before the performance, when doors open.

Driver safety class set

An AARP driver safety class will be held at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 11. This is an eight-hour classroom refresher for motorists aged 50 and older who have years of driving experience.

It is not necessary to be a member of AARP to participate. There will be a $10 fee for materials. Participants may be eligible for an auto insurance discount. Participants should bring a sack lunch and their driver's license.

Chili and pie dinner

The Order of the Eastern Star is hosting a chili and pie dinner at the Masonic Lodge from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

There will also be potato soup for those who don't want chili.

If there are more pies than the women can serve, they will be sold.

Manhattan Piano Trio

The Manhattan Piano Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St. A $10 donation is requested to help defray the expense of bringing them to Payson.

‘Books Are Fun' Fair March 10, 11 at PRMC

Select from hundreds of new books and gifts at the "Books Are Fun" Fair, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11 in the Payson Regional Medical Center main lobby.

Quality books and unique gifts including photo albums, stationery, music and much more will be sold to the public at up to 70-percent off retail. Proceeds from the sale will go to support the many programs and scholarships offered by the Mogollon Health Alliance. For more information, call (928) 472-2588.

Grief support group

RTA Hospice is offering a free, eight-week grief support group beginning Monday, March 10. It will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the RTA Hospice office on Mud Springs Road.

Friends of Ferals anniversary March 11

Payson Friends of Ferals celebrates its third anniversary at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 with an open house at the Twin Lakes Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 903 E. Granite Dells Road.

Babysitter training

The American Red Cross Babysitter Training course is March 13 and March 14.

This 10-hour course provides individuals, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians.

The course will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 13 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the Payson Police Department Conference Room, 303 N. Beeline Highway.

Participants must be 11 years of age by the last scheduled date. The cost is $10 per person. Sign up through Parks and Recreation. Registration is open now. Maximum class size is 12, so register early. For more information, call Deb Rose at (928) 474-5242, ext 7.

Eggs & Issues March 12

On Wednesday, March 12, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and Payson Regional Medical Center will present an Eggs & Issues forum featuring Gila County Superintendent of Schools Linda O'Dell. The meeting will begin at 7 a.m. at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road.

Payson Regional Medical Center will sponsor light refreshments for the morning. Please call the chamber to reserve a seat, (928) 474-4515.

Blood drives will be held at the following locations:

  • Payson Regional Medical Center, 807 S. Ponderosa, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, March 13 in the Bloodmobile in the parking lot.
  • RTA Hospice, 511 S. Mud Springs Road, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 18 in the conference room.
  • Wal-Mart, 300 N. Beeline Highway, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, March 21 in the Bloodmobile in the parking lot.
  • Payson Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 22 in the meeting room.
  • Payson High School, 301 S. McLane Road, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 25 in the lobby of the auditorium.

Free tax help and e-file

Free tax preparation and free electronic filing is provided by AARP volunteers in Payson. AARP Tax-Aide is administered through the AARP Foundation, in cooperation with the IRS. This free service is provided to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

It is available through April 15 at the following locations and times: Payson Elks Lodge, Airport Road and Beeline Highway, Mondays 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Gila Community College, Mud Springs Road, Thursdays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
