Engine Gets Life Support Status

The Hellsgate Fire District Engine 221 at Tonto Village Station 22 has been upgraded to ALS (Advanced Life Support).

This means that it is now fully equipped to assist district paramedics in the care of patients on medical calls. It is also carrying a new 12 lead heart monitor, which will provide medics the diagnostic capability they need to determine if a patient should be sent to the Valley or can be managed at Payson Regional Medical Center.

Tonto Village III streets are being prepared for paving.

This could cut two to four hours off the time of treatment for critical patients.

There is currently one student from the Tonto Village station in the EMT class and three from the Mead Ranch station. All are due to graduate in May. Engine 231 at Mead Ranch Station 23 is now being outfitted as BLS (Basic Life Support).

Upcoming events:

  • April 5, 2-5 p.m., Tonto Village Station Open House Firewise Event with free burgers

•April 6, 9-12 a.m., Mead Ranch Fire Station Open House Firewise Event with free breakfast

There is an open house at both the Tonto Village and Mead Ranch stations. Come on out and check out the new fire trucks and equipment.

The theme for both events will be Firewise. There will be Firewise information available for homeowners, and they will be able to sign up for a free Firewise assessment which will provide things to make homes more able to survive a wildland fire.

This is a no-obligation assessment which will be performed by Firewise assessors for Hellsgate Fire District. Both events will have free food provided.

Brush dumpster

The county brush bin will be available in the following communities for loading of any green materials from residents homes -- this includes brush, tree trimmings, needles, leaves etc. No trash, plastic bags or lumber are allowed. If everyone plays by the rules, we will try to get additional dates as well.

  • March 20-26 Mead Ranch near the fire station.
  • March 27- April 2 Tonto Village across from the fire station.

Boundary burn

There is a tentatively scheduled brush-pile burn on the north side of Collins Ranch/Mead Ranch on Saturday, March 29. This is the area in which volunteers from both Mead Ranch and Collins Ranch worked on over the last year.

Tonto Village Chapel

The dedication of a tree for Connie Weldon will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 25.

Pastor Jim Barker will officiate at the ceremony. Everyone is encouraged to tell of their experiences with Connie and how Connie touched their lives. Each person will have the chance to add soil during a planting.

There will be a performance of the Continental Singers, a gospel group, at the Star Valley Southern Baptist Church on Friday, March 21, 2008. The singing will begin at 7 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend to listen to really good gospel music.

Jacob Martin, son of Charlie and Gary Martin of Tonto Village III, will add another candle to his birthday cake on Friday, March 28. Happy birthday, Jake.

New paving

There is really good news for the residents who live in Tonto Village III. The streets are now being prepared with the base coat for the final application of the final layer of pavement.

This will cut down the dust tremendously. I am still waiting anxiously for the pavement of the Control Road.

Easter Sunday is on March 23 this year. I want to wish all my readers a very Happy Easter. I hope that you enjoy family and friends but that you don't forget that the Lord died for us and then went to be with His Father. Happy Easter to everyone.
