Captain Jack might not be making an appearance, but you can bet the Spanish Main a fair number of his relatives will be on hand at the 2008 Business Showcase, Hidden Treasures of the Rim Country.
The 16th annual showcase is featuring a pirate theme this year at its new and improved home in the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino's Event Hall. The showcase is April 18 and 19 and will have 45 exhibitors.
The exhibitors include both businesses and organizations from around the Rim Country. Each booth will offer raffles for guests at the showcase, though no products will be sold. The showcase is an opportunity to introduce residents, visitors and other businesses to the wide variety of goods and services provided by local merchants and area organizations.
Exhibits will be put in place from noon to 5 p.m., Friday, April 18, with a mixer for showcase participants, sponsors and chamber members following at 5:30 p.m.
DJ Craig will provide music for the evening, appetizers will come from the fine kitchen of the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino and there will be a no-host bar. The mixer is for those 21 and older, said John Stanton, manager of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Showcase participants will have their booths manned during the mixer and will compete for a gold doubloon special prize raffle, Stanton said. Exhibitors will also be competing for Best of Show, Best Representation of Theme, the Media Award, Best Outside Booth and the People's Choice Award.
The showcase is open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 19.
"We're going to have a really good mix of businesses and organizations," Stanton said.
The Mazatzal Hotel and Casino is the presenting sponsor of this year's showcase. Stanton said there are other levels of sponsorship still available and a few booth spaces as well. The deadline to become a sponsor and/or claim an exhibit space is April 11.
