More than 350 cars participated in the 2008 Beeline Cruise-In Auto Show presented by the Rim Country Classic Auto Club. More than $23,000 was raised to benefit Rim Country charities.
"One of the contributing factors was the Saturday turnout on Main Street," said John Zilisch, 2008 car show chairman.
"We completely sold out vendor spots that added more than $1,300 to the show income and all of the vendors were ecstatic over their sales. Without exception, the vendors said they want to be back next year," Zilisch added.
The parade through town on Friday afternoon was a great show and the sock hop at the casino was an overwhelming success. The Main Street Grille served 262 steak dinners for the participants on Saturday night, which brought nothing but praise. Golden Eagle Distributors put on a great show at the steak cookout and almost everyone went home with a nice piece of memorabilia.
The Friday "Burger Burn" in the park served about 450 participants and the breakfast Sunday morning was a sell out.
"Once again, it was a great show and we thank all of our sponsors and the people of Payson for coming out, enjoying the cars and spending some money to support our local charities," Zilisch said.
Without the sponsors there would be no show, he said. Cash and in-kind sponsorships pay for all of the expenses, many of which are incurred long before any income is received.
Zilisch said Mazatzal Hotel & Casino and KCMA came through as early major sponsors, which kept the show in the black during its early planning stages. Many sponsors doubled their donations to the show, he said.
"To all our sponsors, we offer a heartfelt thank you," Zilisch said. "You make the show happen so that the club members and volunteers have the opportunity to raise money for local charities."
