The Payson Police Department has four of its sergeants seeking promotion to lieutenant.
Vying for the post are Dean Faust, Donald Garvin, John Heflin and Thomas Tieman.
All four men have a many years of experience with the department.
They have taken part in a variety of tests for the job, including written exams; interviews by a panel of two visiting law enforcement officers, Chief Don Engler and Town Manager Debra Galbraith; and developing an operation plan for a mock event, then preparing a press statement when a shooting occurred at the event.
Filling the lieutenant's position was the second priority for 2008, according to the department's annual report.
The successful candidate's duties will include supervising patrol and specialty areas within the department, said Chief Engler in the annual report.
