Rollicking Rodeo Comes Out Of The Chutes Friday


The 2008 Gary Hardt Memorial Spring Rodeo is this week, starting with Women's Barrel Racing Thursday night. There will be two evening rodeo shows and the annual Main Event Parade.

Schedule of Events

Thursday, May 15 -- Women's Barrel Racing - Cactus Series, gates open at 5 p.m., performance at 6 p.m.

Friday, May 16 -- Tough Enough to Wear Pink Rodeo -- gate opens at 5 p.m., performance starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 17 -- Main Event Rodeo Parade on Main Street, 9 a.m.; rodeo performance gate opens at 5 p.m., show at 7 p.m.

The rodeo is presented by the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee and features livestock from contractor Skip Beeler of Salt River Rodeo Company; announcers are Johnny Pope and Reed Flake; and specialty act Dwayne Ricker, who will also be working the arena as one of the clowns.

Mutton Bustin' will return this year, but participation is limited. Get your child's application now at Chapman Auto Center.

The annual Miss Rodeo Arizona program will take place in Payson again this year, but in a modified version. Out-going Miss Rodeo Arizona Katie Hill will be saying her goodbyes and introducing her successor Casey Jo Rose. Pageant events open to the public include:

Friday, May 16 - 1 p.m. - Horsemanship at Payson Rodeo Grounds; 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 pm - Autograph signing at Corral West

Saturday, May 17 - 10:30 a.m. - Miss Rodeo Arizona Celebration and Coronation
