Rain!

Wet, wonderful rain.

This past Tuesday, the rain lasted about a half a day, watering down the plants and streets. The air smelled wonderfully clean. The moisture that we received was very welcome to all the village residents.

Most of the villagers have begun their garden plots , so the moisture was very welcome.

Rick Prach of Tonto Village told me that unofficially, the amount of rainfall was 1/4 of an inch from about 6:30 a.m. until about noon.

The rain has not changed the condition of the forest. Fire restrictions are still in place until further notice. Red flags are flying in the Village, Thompson Draw and Bear Flat, along with the rest of the surrounding communities.

Hellsgate Fire District

A regular monthly meeting was held this past Wednesday at station 21 in Star Valley. A report will be in this column next week.

The Fireflies Auxiliary will be meeting at Linda Stailey's house on May 23 at 3:30 p.m. to finalize the preparation of the Memorial Weekend "Welcome back to the Part-timers" breakfast on Saturday, May 24.

The breakfast will be held at the Tonto Village Chapel from 7:30 until 10 a.m.

The chorizo burros are just great and very popular, but there will also be scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and orange juice and coffee.

The burros will be available for sale separate from the other items on the menu.

The auxiliary will have tickets for the raffle items that will be raffled off at the Labor Day Bash on August 30. The price is $1 each or 6 for $5 for chances to win a chain saw, a weed whacker, a Skill saw, two beautiful quilts, a fire pit and an outside fountain.

Double D happenings

Don't forget the Scotch Doubles tournament tonight, Friday, May, 16, starting at 6 p.m. A pot luck will also be held, so bring a covered dish to share with the other couples.

Ethel Cain and Betty Koutz are also sponsoring an arts and crafts display on May 24.

If the weather is sunny, the show will be across the street in the "Island".

If the weather is rainy, the show will be held on the patio, on the west side of the bar. There will be a special on Ethel's menu featuring BBQ sandwiches and there will be popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy available throughout the day.

The Double D bowling team is a winner. On Monday evening the team of Danny and Ethel Cain, Darryl Schatz and Brock Asmundson won first place.

Congratulations to the No. 1 team.
