Joseph F. Calderone was born in Toronto Canada on Jan. 27, 1925.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine Calderone, for whom he served coffee in bed every morning. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Gene Calderone. He and Lorraine had three children, Joanne Wieck, Frank Calderone, and Joseph Calderone, Jr. and one son-in-law, Steve Wieck; five grandchildren, Adelle, Andrea, Leo, Anna, and Carissa and one granddaughter-in-law Jessica and a grandson-in-law Craig. Also dear to his heart were the Tiano family Mike, Bucky, Christine, and Katie. Little children loved him and he was able to enjoy his five great grandchildren.
As a young man he served in the Canadian Army. Upon moving to the United States, he worked as a national sales manager for Olin Corp. Eventually he and Lorraine moved to Payson, Ariz. where he began his much loved work for helping others. He became a Eucharistic minister and an active member of St. Vincent de Paul society and Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in expanding both the Payson food bank and the St. Vincent de Paul food bank. His hard work and unfailing optimism were truly inspiring.
Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale at 1 p.m., Monday, May 19. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Vincent de Paul in Payson.
