Breast Cancer Survivor Education Available

Payson Regional Medical Center is participating in a year-long project to educate the survivors of breast cancer on a number of different topics. The program is also open to family members of survivors and caregivers.

The next program is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 3. The topic is "Longer-term effects of breast cancer treatment" by Susie Bohnenkamp.

There is no cost, but advance registration is requested. Call PRMC at (928) 472-1273.

The educational series is presented by the Arizona Cancer Center and the Arizona Telemedicine Program, supported by a grant from the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

The information presented in the program -- held the first Tuesday of every month through April 2009 -- is also available in Spanish.

Future topics include: management of depression after breast cancer; nutrition; prevention and treatment of lymphedema (swelling after breast cancer surgery); alternative stress reduction strategies; coping skills and coping with fear of recurrence; and movement.
