The weather was perfect for a garage sale this past weekend and the Hellsgate Fireflies were blessed with many items to sell for the very first sale of this kind.
There is no official accounting yet, but it looks as if the building fund for a new fire station is on its way.
The Fireflies wish to thank everyone who donated items, and to the many volunteers who helped make this sale a success.
The Fireflies are now looking forward to another sale in the spring, maybe around Memorial Day.
Thank you again for your support, and a special thank you to Lori Mulvey who was the chairperson for heading up the event and lining up the workers. Thank you, Lori! And thank you, too, to Judie Desrochers for being the co-chairperson and to her husband, Joe, who did the heavy work.
Hellsgate Fire Department updates
Fire Chief Gary Hatch has announced that the department is accepting applications for reserve firefighters through Nov. 14. Being a reserve firefighter will be a part-time position and the reserves are needed at stations No. 22, Tonto Village, and No. 23, Mead Ranch.
The reserves would be paid for on-call time and will be for 48 hours a month for the standby time.
The reserves will be trained for the position. Testing begins Nov. 19.
Pick up your application at our administrative office, 3675 E. Highway 260, Star Valley.
For inquiries, please call (928) 474-3835.
A reminder that there is an item on the ballot regarding the fire code adoption. This pertains mostly to commercial building codes and residences over 3,600 feet that would require sprinklers. If this passes, it would update the fire codes from 2003.
The other ballot issue is the fireboard members to be elected back into office. There is a vacancy and that position will stay open. If there are persons inside the Hellsgate Fire District who would like to be a part of the board, letters can be submitted to the administrative office in Star Valley.
The letters of application will be reviewed at the Nov. 12 meeting of the board at station No. 22. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m.
The position will then be filled at the December 2008 meeting.
