Even in the small Zane Grey District that we reside in, there was a record turnout of voters. There were no long lines of people waiting to cast their votes as there were in many precincts across the state, but there was a steady flow of voters. There were also many early voters and in my opinion, early voting and mail-in ballots will be increasing with all ensuing elections. Many voters find it convenient to mail in their ballots or to vote early at the county recorder’s office while they are taking care of other business in town.
Election workers included Jake Garrett, Jeff and Dianne Daniels, Bill and Janet Snyder, Linda Stailey and Karen Fausz.
The Tonto Village Domestic Water Improvement District held its monthly meeting this past Monday at the Tonto Village Fire Station. Since there was a vacancy on the board, the next person in line, so to speak, as to votes received in the election of the board, was Linda Stailey. The board members then appointed Linda to finish the term of office until the next election. Linda will be sworn in at the next board meeting Dec. 2.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The next fire board meeting will be Nov. 12 at station No. 22 in Tonto Village. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. At that time, the results of the election of the fire board members will be announced.
One of the first full-time residents in the village has just returned home from Payson Regional Medical Center after major surgery. Pat Watson is now home recuperating, and her husband, Dick, and her son, Tom, are taking good care of all her needs. Pat still needs your support and prayers to help her to have a speedy recovery.
We all wish you well, Pat.
The Domino Divas are still getting together every Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the fire station in Tonto Village.
Everyone is welcome to join in the enjoyment of gals getting together for competitive games of chicken foot dominoes. It is also a great time to catch up on the happenings of the village and to enjoy the really great food that the gals bring. Come and join the group!
Double D Happenings
The month of October went out with great fun at the Double D. The Halloween party was a huge success. Winners of the costume competition were Payge Ferriera as Dolly Parton on steroids, Bill Dupke and Bambi Grimes as a bridal couple with Bill as the bride and Bambi as the groom. Tammy Randall was another winner as Sarah Palin. Congratulations to all the winners.
The nine-ball pool tournament winners on Tuesday evening were all from Christopher Creek. Patty Boeschling, Judy Tolle and Nancy Olson swept the Tonto Village players. Sharpen up those pool sticks, girls!
Last week’s winners were Payge Ferriera, Bethany Bickford and Judy Tolle.
Sunday afternoon the eight-ball players took to the pool tables and Payge Ferriera, Tim Ehrhardt and Kara Shaw were the top shooters.
