The Payson Longhorns played their way into the elite eight of the 3A state tournament with a resounding 62-0 win over the Holbrook Roadrunners.

The first round victory was chalked up Nov. 8 in Payson High School stadium and propels the Horns into the state quarterfinal game to be played 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at Mesa High School.

Payson’s opponent will be the Snowflake Lobos who advanced with an opening round 34-21 win over the Safford Bulldogs.

Also in the tournament on Nov. 15, Fountain Hills will play Winslow and Blue Ridge takes on Estrella Foothills. Those two games will be played at Williams Field High School.

Fountain Hills advanced with a 20-17 win over defending state champion Show Low and Winslow moved into the quarterfinals by beating Window Rock 68-28.

Estrella Foothills edged Empire 14-7 and Blue Ridge crunched Santa Cruz 40-0.
