As I sit here practicing Christmas carols for the upcoming holiday season, my mind jumped to a billboard on the side of a bus. The news clip CNN showed was of a happy-go-lucky guy in a Santa suit, lifting his right hand to the words that said, “Why believe in god? Just be good for goodness sake.”

Chapman Auto, KMOG and KRIM deserve an extra hooray for supporting us all day long in our effort to collect funds for children who have been involved in domestic and family violence.

It’s a cold, crisp predawn, with the temperature in the 20s in the central Rio Grande Valley of New Mexico. Then the silence cracks, with a single quack from the rustling snow geese, then another and another. Soon, a cacophonous chorus of snow geese and sandhill cranes fills the morning air — the signal the fly-out is about to begin.
