Lots Of Fun And Foolishness In The Village

Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone!

Today is “Black Friday” for the retailers and shoppers, and it has become a huge day for shopping bargains. Most likely, by the time you read the paper, you are already wiped out from shopping.

I have survived a trip to Yuma watching over my grandchildren. The week proved to be a bit tiring on me, especially looking after teens and an 8-year-old. The experience showed how out of shape I am to keep up with the young people. It was all worth it when our son and daughter-in-law came back with stories of their adventures on the Mexican Riviera. They enjoyed snorkeling, parasailing, swimming with dolphins and zip riding. I needed an explanation for zip riding. They rode a rope a few hundred feet in the air from tree to tree. Wow, that one is not for me! I am going to spend a few days resting.

Hellsgate Fire Department

The annual Christmas party for all the firefighters and their wives, along with the auxiliary members is Dec. 20 at the Lamplighter RV Park’s community center. The party will get under way at 6 p.m. and the dress is semiformal.

A gift exchange also is planned, so bring a gift — there is a $10 limit.

Also bring canned goods for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.

If you need more information, contact Bobbie Fuller at (928) 978-1900.

There is a vacancy on the Hellsgate Fire Board. If you have a desire to serve on this board, please submit a resume and a reason for wanting to serve at the Hellsgate Administration Office in Star Valley. Contact Stacie at (928) 474-3538 for more information.

Tonto Village Water Improvement District

A monthly meeting of the board is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Tonto Village fire station. This meeting is expected to be short, and is open to the public. The public’s input is encouraged.

Domino Divas

A Christmas party for all Domino Divas is scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Tonto Village fire station. There will be a “dirty Santa” gift exchange, plus some great and festive Christmas dishes to share. All past and present Domino Divas are welcome.

The gifts should not cost more than $10. Be creative with the wrapping.

Pool results

The Scotch Doubles on Friday, Nov. 21 didn’t quite pan out. There were not enough players, so a run-off on eight-ball took its place.

Harvey Poyner was the big winner with Betty Koutz and Kara Shaw shooting for second and third place.

This past Tuesday evening, the gals played nine-ball, and a new winner emerged. Bobette Davis, of Tonto Village II, shot for first place, followed by Ethel Cain and Kara Shaw.

Another pool tournament was held on Sunday afternoon and Harvey Poyner shot for first place. Harvey has sure been a good shooter lately. Are there any challengers out there? Joe Ferriera and Betty Koutz placed second and third.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Catching up

There was a large amount of news that was not in my column last week — I will try and catch up.

First up are the birthdays and anniversaries. Maurine Kirchhoefer of Tonto Village III celebrated her birthday Nov. 19; Jimmy “Rabbit” Stephenson of Mead Ranch had his big day Nov. 21; Todd Orr, son of Roy and Marge Tolby, also of Tonto Village III, had his birthday Nov. 25; Jeff Leonard, another resident of Tonto Village III, has his birthday today, Nov. 28; my wonderful neighbor and good friend, Pam Furubotten will light another candle on her birthday cake Nov. 29. Happy birthday to everyone.

Pastor Jim Barker of the Tonto Village Chapel and his wife Bernita celebrated their anniversary Nov. 22; and Jerry and Kay King of Tonto Village III celebrated their anniversary Nov. 23.
