Local business owners Tracy Carmean and Toni Vernetti made the big leagues recently when their pet product was featured on the Jay Leno Show.
Carmean along with Chuck Seivers and his dog Maya demonstrated the Happy Hoodie Sept. 18 at the SuperZoo Pet Tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nev. to a worldwide television audience.
Part of the Pitch to America segment, the trio demonstrated their product for a chance to appear on the show.
Carmean said close to 100 people pitched their products but theirs was one of only two products chosen. The product demonstrated before theirs, from Pet Sport USA, was flavored tennis balls called Tuff Balls.
The Happy Hoodie is a band that is placed over an animal’s ears to provide relief and protection from loud noises, such as the air from a force dryer used in grooming salons and homes.
“Maya’s modeling abilities of the product was the selling point,” Carmean said. “The look on Maya’s face had Jay Leno and the whole audience in stitches.”
The Hoodie will be available in Ryans Pet Supplies catalog nationwide this November and is available online at www.happyhoodie.com. For more information and to watch the clip visit the Web site.
Carmean owned the Rim Country Pet Salon in Payson for 10 years. She recently handed the business over to Seivers but still serves as a backup groomer when the salon is busy.
