This week’s Adoption Options column is focusing on a few of our “special” pets. These guys are special because they have special needs or have been with us for a long time.
Bruiser, for instance, is a wonderfully playful dog. He just doesn’t get along well with other dogs.
Casey has every single personality quality you could ask for, including liking everyone — dogs and people alike — but he has allergies and will require a special diet and meds for the rest of his life.
Checkers really doesn’t care for a busy household and doesn’t like dogs, which is why she has been at PHS just about longer than anyone.
Isis was never nurtured by her former people and was allowed to become pregnant and have two litters of puppies before she was hardly a year old. Therefore, she will need much training, understanding and TLC to make her new life a success.
You see, at Payson Humane Society we believe every animal deserves the chance to be a loving member of a family. That with just the right person, they can live happily ever after, giving and receiving a lot of love and affection.
Winter is coming on, and the population is very high at the shelter right now, so we are hoping someone will be willing to open their hearts and home to these wonderful pets, in spite of their special needs.
We also feel the need to give a special tribute of love and honor to a few of the PHS animals who we’ve lost this year. Due to age, injury or illness, these pets never made it into a new home, but they left this world as members of the Payson Humane Society family. Yes, they were loved, deeply and truly by each of us at the shelter.
Our departed friends, just to name a few — Old Man Silky, Yoda, Baby Girl, Santiago, Majistie, Bubba, Princess, Big Bertha, Moma, Tigra, Pan, Fletch, Panthro, Jag, Shakespeare, Mary, Chester, Clarence, Haddies, Patch, Caramel, Scruffy and the list goes on.
If you would like to meet some our wonderful adoptable pets, please come and see us at 812 S. McLane Road, or visit www. petfinders.com or www.paysonhumanesociety.com.
This stunning 4-year-old Rottweiler is Saylah. Her owners moved to Asia and brought her to us. She is still a little sad, but has shown us how sweet she can be. She is housebroken and does well on leash, in cars and with other dogs. She is a little overweight and will need a family who can take her for walks and give her the exercise she needs. She is very intelligent and knows her basic commands. She is a true gem who is looking for her forever home. Can you help her?
Kacey is very special. He needs a caring, compassionate family to take him on with his special needs. He is a neutered Chow/Australian Shepherd mix. He will be 5 years old on Halloween. He has been adopted and returned to us twice, all because of his skin condition. He has allergies and requires special foods and allergy shots. He is housebroken and does wonderful on a leash. He rides well in vehicles and gets along with other dogs. He is quite the character, too. He can talk to you, and, when he gets excited, his cute little stubby tail wiggles back and forth. Please help him find his forever home. He needs someone who will love him and appreciate him for the wonderful guy he truly is. Come meet Kacey! We promise you’ll fall in love.
Checkers is a beautiful, long- haired Tortoiseshell cat. She has been at the shelter since July of last year; longer than any of the other animals here. She has quite the personality, and is very loving and affectionate. She gets along well with other cats, but is not too crazy about dogs. This little girl has captured the hearts of all the employees and we can’t understand why her forever, loving family has yet to come and adopt her. Please stop by and spend some time with her, and discover the precious girl we all know and love. She needs you; can you help her?
Isis is a 3-year-old Shepherd mix. She was turned over by her owner because she had 10 puppies, and because she hates to be alone. This special girl is in need of a lot of TLC and, unfortunately, no one ever taught her how to be a lady. She definitely needs a family who will be patient with her and willing to train her. She truly is a sweetheart and deserves all the love and affection a family can give. If you are interested in Isis, please come by and meet her and let her win you over with her charm.
Meet Bruiser! This handsome guy is only a year-and-a-half old, which means he still has a lot of puppy qualities about him. He was adopted once from us when he was a young pup, and then returned because his owner couldn’t keep up with him. That just means that he needs someone who likes to go hiking and running. He is very playful and full of energy. This loyal guy also needs someone who can train him and teach him new things. He is willing and ready for the right person to come along and make him a part of their family. If Bruiser sounds like the guy for you, come by and take him out in the play yard. You won’t be sorry.
