Thieves made off with $14,000 worth of solar panels from Roosevelt Lake Oct. 1 and authorities are offering a reward for their return.

Several Solarex solar panels were removed from the roof of a restroom in the Vineyard Picnic area sometime between 1:30 p.m., Oct. 1 and 7:45 a.m., Oct. 2. The panels were used to provide electricity to the restrooms.

“Based on physical evidence at the scene, we believe that the suspects traveled to this area on Roosevelt Lake by boat and transported the stolen property by boat,” said Tonto National Forest patrol captain Larry Heady.

The Tonto National Forest is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the recovery of the panels and arrest of the persons responsible.

Anyone with information can contact the Tonto National Forest Law Enforcement and Investigations officers at (928) 467-3260 or (602) 225-5241.
