School buses need to put their red lights on when stopped to pickup or let off children
October 10, 2008
Imagine my surprise when I received a call last week from the Payson Police Department. The officer told me he would discuss with me the subject when I returned his call. Well, I tried to call him back but he was off, so I spent the weekend a bit worried about what it was about. However, since I hadn’t broken any law I knew off, I shrugged it off.
Payson Kids Count
October 10, 2008
On Nov. 4, we will be voting on the future of our children and our community. The Payson Unified School District (PUSD) is asking the community to extend the existing budget override of 10 percent for another seven years. A yes vote to the budget increase allows the district to maintain the current school programs and class sizes. Your tax rate does not change; it stays the same as it has been for the past four years.

Solving the crisis
October 10, 2008

Does Payson need the Y?
October 10, 2008
Did you see the voter information packet concerning the proposed YMCA in Payson? More than six pages of information, for and against, and not a word addressing the real question here: Does Payson need another indoor recreation/fitness facility? The answer, which renders the arguments contained in those six pages moot, is no.
No to the Y
October 10, 2008
It amazes me how much money a nonprofit organization like the YMCA has spent on lawsuits, mailings and full page ads. Is this your membership dues going into the community for our own good?
Support for Haapala urged
October 10, 2008
I would like to recommend Dan Haapala for Gila County Supervisor in District 1. I have seen Dan for the last four years dedicate a lot of his time and money to our community. Dan lives in East Verde Estates where I live and I have watched him work almost every Saturday helping older residents clean lots to prevent fires in our community and haul the brush to the brush pit at no charge to the residents. He is always ready to assist in making our community safe.

Fireflies plan big yard sale
October 10, 2008
Bill and I are extremely happy. We finally have the foundation poured for the addition to our cabin thanks to Isaac Morris and his crew of very competent workers. Thank you, Isaac. To come just this far has been a long and tedious process. The weather did not cooperate either. We were hoping to be in the cabin by winter, but the outlook does not look good, winter is approaching too fast. We will continue, as the circumstances will permit. Hopefully, the framing and the walls can be put up. We will keep our fingers crossed that all goes well from this point on.
Halloween fun planned in area
October 10, 2008
It is that time of year again when the tarantulas are on the loose. It seems the only time I have ever seen one of these spiders is in October. For some strange reason they are out and about during this month. The other day my daughter and I were walking down the road during the day and came across two of them. I have not been able to figure out why it is only during the month of October that we see them, but I am glad that is the only time. These things are not little spiders, some of them are about four inches across, and that is pretty big for someone who doesn’t like spiders, even the very small ones.
