The wedding of Bryan and Heather Watkins of Star Valley took place at St. Joseph’s Hospital, so Heather’s sister, Melody, could be the maid of honor.

Heather and Bryan Watkins of Star Valley exchanged vows at an unusual wedding location Oct. 6, 2008.

The couple married at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix so Heather’s sister and maid of honor, Melody Morris — a patient at the hospital — could attend.

Melody, 18, recently underwent surgery at St. Joseph’s to remove a brain tumor and could not be discharged from the hospital in time to participate in her sister’s wedding. The bride and groom decided to have a ceremony at St. Joseph’s so Melody could be included.

“I wanted to make sure my sister would be next to me during our wedding,” says Heather. “I’m so glad we could make it work this way.”

Heather and Bryan continued their wedding day with a second ceremony in Payson, but the hospital wedding will be remembered as the most special.

“It would not have been the same without my sister by my side during this special occasion,” says Heather. “We’re grateful she was able celebrate with us.”
