Tickets are now available for the second round of the “Wines of the World Tasting Series,” a very popular fund-raiser for the Payson Humane Society building fund.

Chapter 2 of the series includes three tastings, one each in October, November and January. The exciting new venue for the second series is Gerardo’s Italian Bistro, 512 N. Beeline Highway.

All three tastings will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, and those who wish can stay for a special three-course meal prepared by Chef Gerardo Moceri following each tasting. Noble Collins, wine director for The Beverage Place, will again select and pour the wines.

Collins emphasized that you don’t have to be a wine aficionado to attend.

“It’s a great way to learn a little about wines and to discover some new wines, but mostly it’s about having a good time,” Collins said. “Wine is to be enjoyed.”

Tasting 1 will be Sunday, Oct. 19, and will have an Oktoberfest theme with German wines.

Tasting 2 will be Sunday, Nov. 16, and will feature holiday wines, just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

Tasting 3 will be Sunday, Jan. 25, and will feature select wines from South America.

Each tasting will be limited to 100 attendees. Cost for the tastings is $20 per person, or $50 for the set of three tastings. The first series of tastings sold out quickly, so please buy your tickets soon.

They are available at the Payson Humane Society, The Beverage Place, Gerardo’s Italian Bistro and the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are also available from many Payson Humane Society board members.

The optional three-course dinner following each tasting is $20. Advance tickets are not necessary for the dinner.

Proceeds from the tasting go to the fund to build a new 15,500-square-foot animal shelter to replace the current facility, an old house that is crumbling with critical plumbing and electrical issues.
