Trevor Creighton was honored as the “Teacher of the Year” in the Wal-Mart Foundation’s Teacher of the Year program on Sept. 26 at Julia Randall Elementary School.

Associates at the Payson Walmart store presented a $1,000 educational grant to the school and $100 gift card to the honored teacher.

Previous recipients have used their grant to boost reading and mathematics programs, create advanced study classes and improve school facilities, including playgrounds.

The Teacher of the Year program will provide close to $5 million to schools across the country to honor top teachers. Last year, Wal-Mart Foundation contributed more than $67 million in to support education.

Since 1995, the Wal-Mart Foundation’s Teacher of the Year program has recognized more than 30,000 teachers nationally.
