General Contractor Warns Of Mail Scam

A local general contractor is warning other small businesses of a mail scam that asks for money and confidential information.

Vinrose Corporation received an official-looking document from the Phoenix-based Board of Business Compliance in September. The letter states that $125 is due along with a copy of Vinrose minutes.

Office manager Peggy DeGroot said the company was going to send in the money and information because the document looked like it came from the Arizona Corporation Commission.

“I was looking at it closely and saw in the fine print that it is not connected to any governmental body, so I went to the Better Business Bureau Web site and saw that it is a scam,” DeGroot said.

On the back of the notice, the Arizona Revised Statutes Guide is listed, stating payment should be submitted for processing the annual minutes of a corporation.

The BBB warns, that it is not an official document or from any government branch, including the Arizona Corporation Commission.

If you receive the notice, report it by calling (602) 542-3026.
