Payson High School senior Kristina Vohs has been invited to attend the presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. in January.
She traveled to the nation’s capitol last year and wrote in a letter, “Honestly, it was the best time of my life so far.”
She met Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz, plus a former Undersecretary of Homeland Security. She also saw Air Force One fly overhead, presumably with President Bush inside.
“It’s like something you would never expect to happen to you, but you get to see it,” Vohs said.
This year, she is slated to attend the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference in Washington, D.C. from Jan. 17 to 21.
The long weekend features keynote speakers, a black tie ball, and debates and roundtable discussions designed to expand students’ knowledge of presidential elections.
She needs $3,500 to attend and is requesting donations. Money can be sent to 602 E. Amarillo Circle, Payson, AZ 85541.
Vohs can also be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Vohs wants to see Republican presidential candidate John McCain win the election. McCain “knows what he’s doing and he’s from Arizona.”
Vohs has met McCain. “He was calm and he actually gave me candy.”
