Sylvia and I are voting yes on the YMCA because we believe the YMCA, coupled with the location, will have a positive impact on the quality of life in Payson. Placement of the proposed facility in Rumsey Park surrounded by softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and the library are perfect to encourage relationships and activities for all ages.

It’s with great interest I’ve been watching the effects of the economic downturn on our governments around the state: (1) State of Arizona $1 billion-plus deficit; (2) Sales taxes down in Payson, out of cash, and further cutbacks probable; (3) Town of Miami bankrupt; (4) Phoenix hits $200 million deficit; (5) Santa Cruz County on four-day work week; etc.

I wrote in the Oct. 21 Extra Points about the “Blue Ridge Home of Champions” banner that was so blatantly placed on the end of the field where the Longhorns were warming up prior to the Payson vs. Blue Ridge football game.
